EXTRAMOULD

Extramould is a mold release agent specially tailored for the casting of copper anodes.

It is based on Bone Ash improved with a powerful package of additives, including lubricants, dispersing agents and binders.

Through research, field testing and close cooperation with large Chilean copper smelters we engineered this high performance mold coating.

Extramould has a number of characteristics that are essential to obtain anode surface quality required and to ensure the chemical purity of metal.

It has a high resistance to thermal shock, so effectively acts as an insulator, protecting the mold and allowing a proper mold release action.

The superior quality of Extramould is attributed to the fine internal structure of individual particles, which preserve the original bone cell structure.

It acts as a lubricant, allowing a smooth flowing of liquid metal evenly on the mold surface, preventing losses of temperature and a raise in molten copper viscosity, that produces lower quality anodes.

The carefully studied particle size distribution in this product, allows the formation of an evenly and well adhered layer of coating that avoids agglomerations which could cause porosity or pinholes in the anode surface.

It is a totally inert product. There is no possibility of formation of oxides, carbonates, silicates, etc., which could contaminate the metal and deteriorate the chemical quality.

Extramould is completely harmless to human health. Its handling is safe because it is non-toxic and non-flammable.

Main advantages by using Extramould instead of pure Bone Ash are:

• Lower overall consumption rate. Typically 0.6 to 0.8 kg Extramould per casted ton.

• Much higher molds life. Increases of 25% to 30% are not uncommon.

• Improved anode scrap rate. Less re-smelting. Good quality anodes. Free of burrs. Smooth surface. Good shape of ears.

• Improved operational tolerance. More productivity. Wider ranges of copper chemistry, temperature ranges of copper and molds and refrigeration.

 

BAREX

Barex is a mold release agent used in the casting of copper anodes.
Its formulation is based on precipitated barite and a combination of additives, including lubricants, dispersing agents and binders.

Through research, field testing and close cooperation with large Chilean copper smelters we engineered this high performance mold coating.

Barex has a number of characteristics that are essential to obtain anode surface quality required and to ensure the chemical purity of metal.

Has high resistance to thermal shock, so effectively acts as an insulator, protecting the mold and allowing a proper mold release action.

Acts as a lubricant, allowing a smooth flowing of liquid metal evenly on the mold surface, preventing losses of temperature and a raise in molten copper viscosity, that produces lower quality anodes.

It is a totally inert product. There is no possibility of formation of oxides, carbonates, silicates, etc., which could contaminate the metal and deteriorate the chemical quality.

Barex is completely harmless to human health. Its handling is safe because it is non-toxic and non-flammable.

For casting copper anodes, experience shows that Barex release agent should be used in the range of 1.0 to 2.0 kg. per ton of casted copper

This performance is obtained when using concentrations of suspension of release agent between 12 / 16 ° Bé.


POWERPACK

Power Pack is a powerful package of refractory additives, specially formulated to enhance the performance of the release agent material that is typically used in copper smelters for anode casting.

Includes lubricants, binders and dispersants.

It is a white and odorless powder that can be incorporated to the same normal mold coating preparation tank.

We recommend adding approximately 15 % weigth to weight of PowerPack related to consumption of Barite or Bone Ash or other coating to appreciate full benefits.

The use of this product will lower overall consumption of mold release agent and you will get anodes of improved quality.

MOULDEX

Mouldex is a mold release agent specially designed for copper molds fabrication. It is mainly used by copper smelters during the production of the molds required at the anode casting wheel.

Its formulation is based on Synthetic Bone Ash ( calcium hydroxylapatite ) improved with a powerful package of additives, including lubricants, dispersing agents and binders.

This product is totally inert therefore when in contact with molten metal there are no gases or residues that could contaminate or deteriorate the casted mold surface.

Mouldex is a very fine grained homogeneous powder with a carefully studied particle size distribution. The coating formed is thin and uniform with very high adhesion to the surface of the master-mold.

Molds produced have a very smooth surface, free of holes or cracks, largely improving mold life expectancy and allowing finally the production of excellent quality anodes.

In aqueous suspension, Mouldex has a very low sedimentation speed, facilitating the dispersion of the product and allowing a more uniform application which is usually done with a manual spray gun.

CONVERMOULD

ConverMould is a product designed for auxiliary tasks to anode casting. It is used in copper smelters during molding, in canalas, tip spoons, etc.

Its formulation is based on barite and refractory oxides.

Through research, field testing and close cooperation with large Chilean copper smelters we have designed this release agent to be used dry with high-performance.

It has a number of features that are essential to obtain and guarantee the chemical purity of the liquid metal.

It has high resistance to thermal shock, thereby it effectively acts as an insulator, protecting the parts coated with copper casting.

It is a totally inert product. There is no possibility for the formation of oxides, carbonates, silicates, etc., which could contaminate the metal and deteriorate its chemical quality.

It is completely harmless to human health. Its handling is safe because it is non-toxic and non-flammable.

For a typical cast copper anodes, experience shows that ConverMould release agent is used in the range of 0.5 kg. per ton of molten copper.

CASES

Case 1

Problems in treatment of anode sluge in the refinery due to excess barite, caused by the carry over of it from the anodes from the smelter. Furthermore there was detected a high proportion of protuberances in the anodes .

The analysis found that the smelter was forced to use high concentration of release agent to have a good mold releasing action, causing the consequences described.

The use of Barex was proposed, achieving significantly lower impregnation anodes and solving the problem of the electrolytic refinery. Excessive bulges disappeared.

Case 2

120,000 aty ( annual tons per year) smelter using barite with very high unitary consumption , close to 2.2 kg per ton molded. High consumption of molds for its short average life, 300 ton on average, and high cost of molds for being an outsourced service.

Operation is detected with molds at a relatively high temperature of 180 C. A change to Extramould is proposed and also to lower the operating temperature to 170 C, achieving a significant decrease in the consumption of release agent nearly 45% and an increase in average 500 ton.

Case 3

Old Smelter using pure Bone Ash but with excessive impregnation of coating on the anodes, generating complains of the electrolytic refinery for excessive amount of calcium in the electrolyte.

An excess of consumption is detected, in this case of 1.5 kg per ton molded to improve the operability of the molding to face temperature variations of copper mold and of possible high in oxygen copper.

The release agent is switched to using a high performance product, in this case Extramould, which allows working with the proper density at all times, preventing overruns.

It is possible to reduce the impregnation of anodes to a minimum, solving the problem at the refinery and improving the ratio of consumption to 0.85 kg per ton with consequent savings in mold release.

You will be asked to answer a short survey to suggest which  product to use and under what conditions use it.

Step 3

We will propose to run a test with the suggested product. It is generally required product for one week of molding. Technical staff of our company will be present at the smelter in this trial, if you wish so.

Step 4

After this first trial, if  it is  necessary we will adjust the product and we will suggest to you an extended trial, with product for 3 months of operation.

Step 5

To finish  we should be able to plan together  a long-term relation on  biannual contract.
